There’s a lot of logging where our cottage was, or so it seemed to me – which also meant many piles of cut trees just laying around. The biggest pile on our road was right near the cottage, and darned if one day Merry didn’t head straight for it and climb nearly to the top, effortlessly, with a series of pug hops! Of course, once she got up there, it took a few moments for her to figure out how to find her way back down. :) Silly pug.

Weeeee’re BACK! The princess and I had a superb time at the cottage. Our dock had a lovely view of the river and two big Muskoka chairs to lounge on. The princess enjoyed the view from my lap while I relaxed with some light summer reading. More vacation pics all this week – stay tuned!

In just one short hour, the princess and I will be off for our first real vacation in four years. What’s more, we’re taking off to a cottage that has no access to the Internet – no computers of any kind on this trip. (For me, that means the first truly “unplugged” vacation in ten years – since before I started running businesses and working online.) The princess, as you can see, is excited at the prospect of having me all to herself for a full week with no work.

There won’t be any Merrylog posts while we’re away (sorry, folks!) but expect many fabulous cottage vacation photos when we return. :)

The pug also enjoyed her new lynx and tiger blankies very much. Looking very fabulous, princess. You look like you need a martini and a box of chocolates.

Ever since we got this bed for review, I’ve been unable to get the pug out of it. She has literally chosen it over snuggling with her mommy on occasion. And this is why I think that pugs are the perfect breed to do product testing, particularly for beds – they’re all about the comfort. (Read the very favorable review.)

It’s roughly 1000 degrees here in Toronto, and has been for the better part of two weeks. To help keep the princess cool, I always create mini “freezer-pops” for her to lick when we come in from a walk – she loves them, and they cool her right off. Here’s how I make them:

1 single-serving of Balkan (plain) yogurt
1 ripe banana
4-5 tablespoons of creamy peanut butter, preferably natural

I mix all three ingredients together in a bowl, and then drop them into a greased mini-muffin pan and pop the pan in the freezer. Each mini-muffin is a perfect size for the princess – enough treat to cool her off, and she loves the taste.
