lickie

You know, considering how often the pug is licking stuff (constantly) you’d think I’d have an entire treasure trove of photos with her sticking her tongue out – but it’s surprisingly difficult to catch her in the act. :)

the fur coat

Yes, the princess has a fur coat. Actually, she has several, though two of them are waiting for review so she’s not allowed to wear them yet, until we’ve shot them from every angle to perfection. She actually loves it, and so do I – it’s comfy, keeps her warm, and looks fabulous, darling. (See a larger version of this photo here.)

I love the princess pug in pink. She looks so cute in her hoodie.

sleepy girl

Oh, the princess is just such a layabout in the mornings. She wasn’t as a puppy – she was dragging my butt out of bed in the wee hours of dark – but once she grew up, she became the snuggling-in-bed-with-Mom-till-forever type. Typically she snuggles with me until I wake up and then is buried under covers and pillows while I get up, get a drink (I’d love to say something classy like tea or hardcore like coffee, folks, but the truth is I like my caffeine carbonated and cold!) and check my email and news reader. Then I come back to the pug and have to rub her belly, clean out her eyes and folds, and lift her from the bed to get ready for walkies. She never wants to come and always wants more tummy rubbings and sleepies. Lazy pug! :) (Jammies by VIPoochy.)

chasing the ball

The princess continues to be perfectly recovered and not showing a glimpse of the scare she gave her momma on the weekend. We’ve been out playing with the ball most mornings and, of course, that’s guaranteed to put both of us in a good mood.

The princess threw up on Saturday. Not a totally unheard of occurrence for a pug; but she threw up twice (at which point she was put on a strict rice-only diet) and then woke me up at 5am Sunday morning with the most incredible Dreamcatcher-worthy intestinal rumblings. She was clearly unhappy with her body, as she wouldn’t lay down or walk around much, just sat there, leaning on one arm, looking at me with ears flattened. So, off to the Veterinary Emergency Clinic we went.

It’s a depressing place, even more so than a human Emergency Ward – one poor kitty lost her life while we were there, and two poochies in pretty severe distress were also admitted before the pug, one of them a car accident victim. I have nothing but respect for the folks who work there – it would kill me to see that every day, I think.

Luckily, once we got in to see the doctor, he assured me after examinating Merry that she was simply having some severe gas, and he gave her a shot of what I’m calling Puppy Immodium. He encouraged me to keep her on the simple rice diet for at least another day, and to let him know if there were any more problems.

Within several hours the pug was back to normal. No more tummy rumblings, active and happy (seeking out toys to play with all on her own), and happily gobbling down rice and a little big of veggies last night for dinner before cuddling with us on the couch.

Of course, she slept in a little extra this morning due to all the excitement yesterday – wish I could have done so as well! But I’m just relieved the princess is happy and healthy again. Silly puppy, scaring your momma like that!

snow!

Finally! Over the last couple of days Toronto has finally had its first dumping of snow. Makes everything seem much more winter-y around here. Plus, the combination of light freezing rain and thick snow have made a wonderfully flat, but not too slippery surface for the princess and I to play on in our backyard!

oh that smooshable face

I make no apologies for the fact that I am head over heels with this wee pug and am at times overcome with the need to grab that sweet little face with both hands and smoosh it together and kiss it madly.

The funny part is that when I do this, she pinwheels all four legs madly trying to back up, and as soon as she gets away, she brings me the ball. Apparently, in the world of pug, unstoppable smoochies = playtime.

The best photos of the princess are always the ones where I’m holding a puppy treat just off-camera. What a plaintive look. Don’t worry – she gets spoiled terribly after each photo shoot. :)

a cushy weekend

This weekend was our first real chance to unwind since the holiday season began. My boyfriend and I spent a lot of time puttering around the house, which gave the princess plenty of time to curl up in ultra-comfy beds and watch us at her leisure. Ah, for the life of a pug.
