roll-over!

roll-over!: Canon EOS 30D | 50mm | f/2.0 | 1/250s | ISO 640

The princess learned how to do rollovers when she was a puppy. Then, inexplicably, around 1.5 years, she “lost it”. She really, really wouldn’t do them, and I eventually stopped trying. But once we moved into a place with carpeting, I started trying again – and she picked it right back up! Turns out she just didn’t like her joints knocking against the hard wood floor. And who could blame her?

Can you hazard a guess as to what the princess is looking at just off camera? I’m sure you can guess – it’s not hard…

Yep. It’s a ball. Whoop! Big surprise there! :)

strike a pose

Friends and acquaintances are amazed at the princess’s ability to pose when a camera comes out. The change is instantaneous; she turns to face the camera, or sits and poses prettily. Case in point: last week when we were out in her new pink coat, she noticed me eyeing her with the camera. She turned, sat, and posed. What a pro!

folds, wrinkles & velvety ears: Canon EOS 30D | 100mm | f/2.8 | 1/5000s | ISO 500

While my favorite pug part might be their cute, flat little noses… it’s often their folds and forehead wrinkles that catch my eye, particularly on puppies (those flat foreheads! gets me every time!). Combined with those tiny black velvety ears, it’s little wonder that I’m addicted to pugs.

Are you kidding? We got flurries last night! With more scheduled for the weekend. Crazy. Merry and I are WAY overdue for some happy spring weather because fully half her wardrobe is spring-appropriate; that’s a lotta clothes to work our way through! However, the flakes did give us one-last-chance to show off Merry’s newest winter coat, this fabulous coat/harness from Pooch Outfitters (which we reviewed this month).

tiny hairs

Getting kisses from the pug is always fun, because all those tiny hairs tickle your face. Merry’s favorite trick, though, is to walk up to you (usually on the arm of the couch, but also when you’re laying on the floor watching TV or doing yoga), and sniff your face. From a quarter inch away. It is to this day one of her most endearing traits. I consider it her way of saying “hello”.

begging for treats

begging for treats: Canon EOS 30D | 100mm | f/2.8 | 1/640s | ISO 500

It’s silly to covet photographs of the back of a pug’s head, but the truth is that Merry is just so trained to be a model these days that if I haul out the camera, she wants to turn to face me. Trying to get shots like this, sitting pretty for a treat, are pretty hard to shoot alone — that’s why I have so few of them. :) Clearly I need a photographer’s assistant!
