As promised yesterday, here’s the rest of the birthday celebration: playtime! Her “Dad” and I played fetch with her for a good long time, then we let her run around with the noisy ball for an hour or more. I needed Tylenol afterwards, but the princess was pleasantly exhausted and slept the rest of the night with a big grin on her face. :)

As you know, Friday was the princess’s birthday. While it was just the three of us (her “daddy”, me, and the pug), we wanted to mark the day in a special way. So… a feast. Followed by playtime! These are the photos of the feast (steak, apples and feta cheese… yumm her favorites, followed by 1/2 a carrot muffin with a yogurt & parmesan “frosting”). She was, as you can see, VERY excited to get such a feast.

We placed her in her doggie high chair for the feast and she wore a pink and black party hat, a matching pink and black dress as well as these lovely pearls.

Stay tuned – tomorrow more shots from the party: playtime!

Can you believe this tiny little bit of pug, this wee babe swaddled in pink, is SEVEN years old today? I’m getting old.

Baby girl, you’ve changed my life in so many ways I can’t even enumerate them all here. But I am a happier, healthier person every day for having you in it.

(Her “daddy” and I are having a wee party for her tonight, including STEAK for pug dinner thank you very much, and I’ll share shots of that next week.)

Have a super weekend everyone!

Luckily, we have pretty rainwear for dreary spring days. It cheers us up. ;)

This is the face that greets me, buried beneath the covers, every single morning. :)

the noisy ball

We’ve had this ball for a while, but this was its first jaunt outside. It’s actually a Weasel Ball (Google it – you’ll find tons of ‘em) with the Weasel removed. Because it’s hard plastic and bigger than Merry’s mouth, she has to kind of “nudge” it along with her mouth rather than pick it up. Because it has a battery inside, it’s the perfect ball for pug who’s going blind, because it rolls around constantly and therefore never “stops” making some kind of noise as it rolls along… making it easy to find. For a lazy pet parent, it’s the perfect ball because if it rolls under furniture it will roll itself back out.

That said, these aren’t “pet toys” per se and should only be used under constant monitoring. When we’re not actively playing with the ball and watching her every move, we keep the ball tucked away in a safe place.

Anyway, we actually got her hooked on this ball way before she started to lose her eyesight, brought back from a trip where it seemed it might be fun for her. And that’s when we made the discovery:

The pug’s MANIACAL for the ball. I mean she loves it, hoots and hollers and woofs and howls at it as she chases it around… for hours. Hence, its name: “I’m going to bring out The Noisy Ball for a while and play with the pug”. And in this house, everyone knows what that means. :)

When she’s playing, you can’t watch TV or talk on the phone, and yep, it’s a little headache inducing after a while, but she has so much FUN with it that we have to play with it at least a few times a week.

Now, I know already that you guys are gonna want video. And I’m going to try again to get some. But honestly she runs around the house in so many directions at once with this thing that it’s almost impossible to keep her in frame. I tried to video her once and almost fell on my butt, dizzy!
