rainy day walkies

This week we’ve had rain. Yep. Rain. One day this week it went up to a whopping 46 degrees Fahrenheit. In January. So bizarre. Luckily, the princess has a few different cozywarm rain coats to help her stay toasty and dry. Still, as you can see from the photo – not crazy about the idea of going out in the rain. That’s okay puglet. Me neither!

For those of you who loved the bug-eyed pose of earlier this week, guess what: it’s now a free dog wallpaper! Go on, you know you want to.

And I am just a little pug. Isn’t the expression to die for? ;)

To answer questions from previous days:

What kind of boots is Merry wearing here?

She’s wearing these. Probably my favorite boots for the princess, bar none.

[In your wedding photos,] Did you bake the meringue kisses too?

Yes, I did. :) I used the Joy of Cooking meringue recipe, which pretty much is just caster sugar (I whiz it in the food processor to make it extra fine) and egg whites – oh and a teeny bit of cream of tartar, I believe. I added two vanilla beans’ worth of seeds for flavor and then split the recipe in half and added turquoise flavoring to one half. Easy-peasy.

is that a bug?

Oh, folks, the January hijinx continues around here; I’m going to be SO glad to kick January out on its bee-hind next weekend. Last Wednesday our work systems got hit with a nasty package of viruses that would not quit, not even for an uber-geek like me. I’m a careful girl, with lots of anti-v running, I do not use nasty Microsoft internet programs (IE or Outlook), I don’t open attachments, I don’t view HTML email messages, but this little batch of loveliness was somehow inserted from a Flash component on a web site I view frequently but who, apparently, do not monitor their advertisers very well. Grr.

So, I lost two entire days to at first scrubbing and boot-cd loading and registry editing and then gave up and spent the rest of my time formatting and reinstalling and wiping computers clean. We’re now 100% clean again, a lot behind in work, and sadly missing a few things that got pooched in our backup systems (yes, I back up EVERYTHING!).

The only critical item lost was we lost two weeks’ worth of contest submissions; somehow our email backup systems did not work correctly. So, if you entered our huge monthly Photo Contest for January, please submit again. It won’t count against you. Also, please feel free to TELL folks about this on your own blogs and twitter feeds so that we can get the word out, the contest page is here:

So, how’s your January going? :) The princess and I hope it’s going better than ours. *smile*

spiffy and sniffy

We had this snow until several days ago and then it just went away. I miss it. It reflected light and was so much less depressing than all this rain-lookin’ gray! Merry, do us a favor would ya? Stop sniffing and do the “gimme snow” dance.

To everyone who commented on yesterday’s post: Thank you, thank you, thank you. Your kindness and warmth were a lovely antidote to January chill. We had a lovely wedding and I’ll remember it forever.

To answer some specific questions:

  • The hottie in question is my stepson. Who is sixteen. :) But most folks think he looks like a rock star AND an adult, so you’re not alone!
  • The earrings I picked up at a fabulous little indie store on Queen West. If you’re in Toronto, check them out.
  • Weren’t the cupcakes yum looking? They tasted so, too. I made them with my own little hands. (Yes, I’m nuts. Go on. You already knew this.)

fourmonthiversary

My hubby rolled over to me this morning and wished me a happy fourmonthiversary. For those of you playing along at home, that means it’s been four months since we married! The first four months of our marriage are, barring the honeymoon, probably not ones I’d want to do again – filled with the stress of moving and some illness and generally a lot less fun than I’d hoped for. Our fourmonthiversary promise to one another is to spend more time together, more time with the pug, fill our lives with more fun and more meaning and more laughter, and on the whole try to never again repeat the last four months! :)

Many of you have asked since the wedding to see photos of our special day – and I’m finally getting around to posting that link to all of you! Here it is. The photos were taken by two very good pro shooter friends of mine who not only gave us their time but also the raw, unedited photos as a wedding gift to us. Most of the photos are by those two lovely ladies, but there are a few dozen in there from my stepdaughter who commandeered my camera for the reception. So if you’re wondering why the images look so much like my own images, it’s because I processed them myself. :)

And yes, of course the pinks match. When you’re a diva, you plan these things, darling. Luckily, while she does not seem to enjoy play in the snow this year, she does enjoy walking in the snow, getting treats in the snow, having shoots in the snow, etc.

And throwing her fans a raspberry to boot, of course!

where’s my ball?

I’m not sure if it’s the upset from moving, the dump of snow everywhere before she’d had the world figured out, stubbornness, cold, or some combination of these, but the princess has stubbornly refused to play fetch in the park. Oh, she gets excited when we shake the ball – and sometimes she’ll even go after the ball (though not most of the time) but bringing it back/looking for it? Fuggedaboutit. Even if it’s right at her feet, she won’t budge.

I am hoping that once the snow melts and I have a little more sunlight and time to work with her and the ball and some treats in the park, the princess will remember how to play fetch outdoors. But for now, it looks like an uphill battle. I don’t want to make it stressful for her, either. Maybe the trick is to take her dad out with us? She loves to play fetch with her dad.

It’s not nearly as arty as it sounds. :) I couldn’t get her to give me an expression for love nor money today – just the Blind Pug Stare(tm). And so, I share with you, princess blank stare!

And you will obey me.

(Resistance is futile.)

She was such a little sleepy girl this morning, I had to drag out the camera. And don’t tell me that you aren’t head over-heels with her little red pajamas (they have snowmen on them!) because I won’t believe you. It’s not possible.
