booty call

Little miss thang showing off her adorable hind parts in yet another favorite Wooflink outfit. I heart the pink bow. Seriously. I want a matching outfit for this. Something with a vaguely sixties vibe and cat-eye sunglasses.

Do you ever think about your pooch’s outfit when you’re getting dressed? You ever worry about clashing? I will admit there are times when I’ll avoid putting her in pink, because I’m decked out in red and don’t want to clash. Oh, come on, I can’t be the only crazy one here… fess up!

Once again, the princess is getting ready for her close-up. I love shooting the pug in studio; the lights and speed make it possible to get more of her in focus, and also allows me to stop action, when she moves. Most of the time, without instruction, she’ll just sit there and sit there, waiting for the shutter clicks to end so she can run over to me and get her treats.

She’ll typically get 10-30 treats in a single session (the good ones, too, no carrots usually but the real stuff with meat and other yummy pug-happy ingredients. Because of this, she’s learned to be endlessly patient and wait for the phrase “good girl! Okay!” before trotting over for treats.

The bad news? If she hears the shutter click and she’s not in the same room as me, she whines. Endlessly. Until she gets to play “model”. Oh, I’m serious. :)

poor little pugalone

My poor princess. I feel like a terrible pug mommy. I was sooooo busy this weekend, and for once not with work but with bargain hunting (I’m planning a fairlyland garden entertaining space in our backyard and trying to do it on a shoestring budget) and farmer’s markets and a big Earth Hour concert downtown and house chores and… whew. I think I sat down for an hour or so at some point, but don’t hold me to that.

As a result, I have a very needy pug at home who gave me this look this morning when I went to drag her out of her nice comfy bed (a.k.a. ours!) this morning. Poor baby girl! I’ll play with you a little tonight, promise!

what a pug face

Can you believe the expression? The disgust? It’s as though I offered her only second-rate caviar for her evening slurping, spreading and licking – er, that is, dinner.

She’s such a FUNNY pug, so full of expressions. What’s your favorite? Personally, I’m fond of the looks of disgust, and the happy excited running around face. Both make me laugh and melt and smile and appreciate the wonderful little miss a little more every day. :)

Happy weekend, all!

aren’t I cute?

The princess is just so cute and cuddly in the morning, it slays me. It’s like she takes an extra cute pill overnight so that she can melt my heart in the morning. Incidentally: see those eyes? All cute and puppy-dog like? That’s why pugs get fat. Seriously. It takes almost inhuman will to resist those eyes. Or a biiiig supply of lowfat snacks like celery, peas, and green beans to keep her satisfied without giving her hundreds of calories a day in snack food; that’s our solution. ;)

lion queen

Oh, the rolls of puggy neck. How I love to love the rolls and rolls of puggy neck. It’s hysterical when you rub them – she gets all groany and stifflegged and absolutely will not move for fear that you’ll stop doing it. And when she shivers and shakes her booty, she pulls all her neck rolls forward in the jacket so she looks like she’s surrounded by a lion’s mane.

She’s so funny.

the pointer

How is it, with no nose and no vision, that the pug will affect a “pointer pose” – body locked, one paw raised – when we’re walking in the park? Seriously, folks, what would the pug even *do* if she caught a bird? Pugs are small. The odds of a bird being equal in size or larger than the pug are therefore greater – what’s she hoping to do, get adopted by the bird? I always get the giggles when she acts all “wild doggie” because seriously, the thought of pugs in the wild is enough to set my gigglemeter to overload.

electric slide

Okay, I both dated myself AND revealed I don’t actually know my colors (it’s not really electric pink, I know) but I couldn’t resist. Truth is, I love this slide (it’s in one of our local parks) for its color and couldn’t wait for the weather to get warmer so I could deck out the princess (in pink, natch) and put her up on the slide for a photo shoot.

Why is it that when I do this, some gimlet-eyed “human child” mommy always seems to wander by and give me The Stare? You know, the one that says “I dress my tot in Baby Gap and am sipping a $6 coffee and have a two thousand dollar stroller but you, lady, are crazy – is your pug wearing clothes?”

And also, I think she wanted me to bleach the slide afterwards (I did wipe off the sand). Because pugs have germs, you know. As opposed to little kids. :)

Merry, as you can see, has started her St. Patrick’s Day celebration a wee early in the day. We’ve tried and tried to help her realize that um – pugs? Chinese, mostly – but she stubbornly refuses to admit that she’s anything but Irish on St. Patty’s Day.

I think it’s the Bailey’s. :)

Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all our readers! May your day be filled with steak & kidney pie, colcannon, and good Guinness.

(No pugs were inebriated during the taking of this photo.)
