After a great deal of dithering and wondering whether we’d be able to take our scheduled vacation due to three-times-a-week-at-the-eye-vet, we managed to luck out with her eye and finally it started to fill up with healing blood, which is what we were all waiting for, and her glaucoma stabilized thanks to over the top eye pressure meds, so we were able to take our week off. Yay!
This year’s vacation wasn’t nearly as fun for the pug, I hate to say, since she couldn’t do a huge amount outside with the whole cone/blind thing (you have no idea how tough it is to walk a blind pug wearing a cone! Her sense of direction is completely thrown off and she walks all over the place and has to be watched Very Carefully). However I did try to make sure we cuddled her plenty when in the cottage and she did at least get to soak up wonderful breeze coming off the lake and a nice sunny area to lie in (she loved lying in this doorway all week long).
We’ve had one checkup since we got back and things are still progressing, though the eye doc is now muttering about some scarring. Since the pug was 90% blind anyway, I can’t see that it will make a huge difference, but we’ll have to wait and see. He still generally feels good about the eye and tells us that it is healing, which is the important thing. And we’re now on every TWO weeks for visits, a record for us this summer!
Thank you to ALL of you for your love, support, and comments in the last post. Now that we’re actually back home and not running back to the eye vet 3x weekly, I plan to get more pictures of the delectable princess up here for everyone to enjoy. :)

Stunning – and rather amusing – photo! The Princess and my Mum have gone through a similar eye ordeal recently. Power to the amazing healing power of eye drops, 60 times a day! Love to you, little Merry.
I am so happy to hear that Merry is doing well and hanging in there. You and your family take such wonderful care of Merry and she is a lucky pup to have you. You give her all the happiness and love in the world and you bring such joy to her life!
We love when Payton can come with us on vacation…and she does to! Don’t fret over the scarring. Payton has a rather large scar right in the middle of her eye…the good eye (why couldn’t it have been the 100% blind eye?). But like Merry, she can’t see much anyway so it doesn’t even matter. The doc told us that they can see around it. Must be true because we didn’t notice any change in her ability to get around and play and have fun. Great to see Merry basking in the sun…even if it is with a cone on! Can’t wait for more photos!
Love,
Christy (and Payton)
I have fallen in love with your sweet puggy. Over the years, I have watched her age and mature into a delightful pug. Her attitude is wonderful and I can sure tell that she enjoys life! She is one lucky pug dog to have parents like you. I wish that all the pugs in the world had parents like me (I have four puggy girls!) and you!
Stay strong and love that baby until she can’t take it any more!

Hi! We are new to your blog thanks to Payton and her mom. Your site is beautiful and so are the photos of Merry. Mack is just now starting to have eye problems at 8 1/2. Reading that they (pugs) can be happy and play without sight is comforting. We look forward to reading more about Merry!
Drools and licks,
Minnie (Puggle) and Mack (Pug)
Glad to hear Merry’s eye is doing much better. Sounds like your diligent care made that possible. Poor girl with her cone on during your vacation! Sounds you guys got plenty of time to hang out, cuddle, and relax, though. We’ll keep Merry in our thoughts until that eye is totally healed. -Brian, Jenn and Sid the Pug.
angie, there are soft padded collars that can be put around merry’s neck that would achieve the same outcome as the elizabethan collar……most pet stores sell them, and the look infinitely more palatable than the cone. also, many online pet supply stores sell them. just a suggestion. glad it hear that precious merry is getting better. enjoy your vacation.

sending you a link to these protective collars. blessings to all…………….
Hi Nadine, thanks for the suggestion! :) We’ve actually tried the comfy cone and it didn’t work because Merry could still manage to scratch at her eye *through* the collar. We admittedly haven’t tried the blow up version. However, we’ve decided to keep her on the hard collar for one additional reason – it acts as a bit of a “protector” right now while she’s walking. Most of the time if she walks into something, the cone hits first (protecting those eyes) and for right now, that’s a handy thing ;) She really is used to the hard cone; within a few minutes of it being on she was curling up and going to sleep straight away without any resettling or discomfort.
As always thank you, everyone, for the kind words and support. Means the world to me.
please keep posting us on her progress…..miss her when i don’t see her pics.
