pug happiness

I don’t know how anyone can be grouchy around pugs. While I’ve certainly seen people accomplish it, I’m not sure how they do it. Those sunny little faces looking up at you are, to my way of thinking, the absolute best cure for the grouchies and most restorative mental health medicine I’ve ever found. Look at that face. Doesn’t it make you grin in return?

Smiling One Eyed Pug

It’s harder these days to get really awesome smiling shots of the puglet outside. Since becoming fully blind, playing outdoors has kind of come off the table as an option. We’ve tried – don’t get me wrong – but she quickly loses interest because she has no idea of where her bearings are and therefore can’t find the ball without risking becoming lost herself. We can play a bit of tug-of-war; it’s odd, you know, because for years I refused to play this with her because I didn’t want to encourage aggression, but now outdoors it’s one of the few play activities we can do. :)

However, Merry’s still a happy pug even without the outdoor play. This was taken at a recent family picnic; she had a great time begging for scraps from the table (she loves cherry tomatoes!), wandering around the grass and going for a walk.

Could you seriously resist giving this belly a rub? Me, neither. This little girl (who actually didn’t like belly rubs until she was older than 5 – back then if you tried to rub her belly she’d flip onto all fours so fast it’d make your head spin) is now Queen and Master at getting the belly rub.  Want her to go outside? Belly rub first, please. Want to play with her? Belly rub, if you wouldn’t mind. No wonder we’re so infatuated with the furball. :)
